“The University of Miami maintains a reputation as a leading research institution and, with the purchase of the first four archives of Nineteenth Century Collections Online, we are ensuring our students and faculty have access to the most comprehensive collection of nineteenth century materials available.” -- William D. Walker, Dean of Libraries, University of Miami
Nineteenth Century Collections Online is a multi-year global digitization and publishing program focusing on primary source collections of the long nineteenth century.
Designed specifically with the researcher in mind, Nineteenth Century Collections Online is being built on a groundbreaking research platform that offers the robust search functionality and annotation and tagging tools necessary for scholarly work.
The program includes a variety of content types--monographs, newspapers, pamphlets, manuscripts, ephemera, maps, statistics, and more--and unites them in one central, cross-searchable location.
Nineteenth Century Collections Online's international board of advisors will guide the selection of materials to be published in this program. Content is being sourced from around the world: from national libraries; from academic and public libraries; and from a variety of special collections, archives, and repositories.
As a multi-year program, it will be comprised of numerous collections to be released over many years. This modular, topic-specific format will allow libraries to customize and scale their holdings to meet a variety of collection development goals, research needs, and budgets.
With its authoritative content, trustworthy and extensive bibliographic information, and underpinned by technology that fits the needs of today’s researchers, Nineteenth Century Collections Online will revolutionize the nature of research on the nineteenth century.
